FAQs
1. Are you an approved continuing education provider?
Yes, Courses For Electricians is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to offer continuing education. Our Texas CE Provider # is 2266 and our approved Course # is 24956
2. How do I renew my electrical license?
In order to renew your electrical license, you must complete your continuing education hours prior to your license expiration. Continuing education classes can be taken any time during a renewal cycle.
3. What are the continuing education requirements?
Apprentice Electrician licenses are valid for one year from the date of issuance and must be renewed annually. You should receive a reminder email or postcard from TDLR approximately 60 days before your license expires. However, it is ultimately your responsibility to renew your license before it expires. Please ensure that your contact information on record is current and up-to-date to receive these notifications.
4. Will you provide me with a certificate of completion?
Yes, as soon as you have completed the class, you will be able to email yourself the certificate of completion. You must retain a copy of the certificate of completion for a course for one year after the date of completion. A TDLR inspector may request to see your records as part of an inspection or investigation.
5. Do I Need Continuing Education?
The following licensees are required to complete 4 hours of continuing education prior to each license renewal:
Master Electricians
Journeyman Electricians
Journeyman Lineman
Journeyman Industrial Electrician

Maintenance Electricians
Master Sign Electricians
Journeyman Sign Electricians

Courses must be from a registered TDLR provider. Un-approved courses will not count toward your required hours for license renewal.
One hour of continuing education is equivalent to 50 minutes of actual instruction time.
Electrical Apprentices
Electrical apprentices and electrical sign apprentices must take four hours of continuing education, or be enrolled in a department-registered electrical apprenticeship training course for license renewal.
Multiple License Holders
If you hold multiple license types (e.g. you hold both a master electrician license and a journeyman electrician license), then you will only be required to complete a total of four hours of continuing education. However, the courses must be taken during the period of the license being renewed.
Instructors Seeking Credit
Continuing Education Instructors who are electrical licensees may arrange with the provider to get continuing education hours for that portion of the course which the instructor taught. However, if the instructor does not teach the entire course, the instructor must attend the remainder of the course to obtain credit for the whole course. No partial course credit is allowed.
6. Will you report my completed hours to the board?
Yes, we will report the completion of your continuing education hours to The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as proof upon completion.
7. What if my license is expired?
If you don't renew your license by the expiration date, you are not eligible to work under your license until all the renewal requirements are met, including continuing education.
